    Behind This Photo

    TO ME, THIS PHOTO MEANS:

This is one of our beautiful New Mexico sunsets, unfortunately so very brilliant because of a forest fire raging nearby. The fire seasons seem to be getting worse and worse as climate change continues and the drought intensifies.

In the First Person:

Since I moved here in 1996, I have witnessed the deterioration of the air quality and an increase in health related issues such as allergies, asthma and other respiratory problems.

A native Midwesterner, I first came to New Mexico in 1977, drawn by its exceptional climate and clear skies. Since I moved here full-time in 1996, I have witnessed the deterioration of the air quality and an increase in health related issues such as allergies, asthma and other respiratory problems. We can and must do better for the health and well-being of all of us, but most particularly for our children who are our future.
