RIGHT TO BREATHE: 50 STATES UNITED

Alan Lockwood

As the long-time Co-Chair of the Physicians for Social Responsibility Environment and Health Committee, I have become increasingly aware of the hazards posed by air pollution.

Profession: Professor of Neurology and Nuclear Medicine, Univ. of Buffalo
Group Affiliation: Physicians for Social Responsibility

Clean Air Ambassador:

Alan Lockwood, MD, FAAN

Buffalo, NY

(May 22, 2011 Update: Dr. Lockwood had a great op-ed published in the Buffalo News about the importance of clean air. Read the op-ed.)

I have a grandson who has been treated for asthma.

Here in Buffalo, NY, there are two pollution sources of concern. The Huntley Steam Generating plant is a large, aging coal-fired power plant located just north of downtown. And the Tonowanda Coke Plant is a repeated violator of emission standards, particularly for benzene.

As the long-time Co-Chair of the Physicians for Social Responsibility Environment and Health Committee and principal author of PSR's report "Coal's Assault on Human Health," I have become increasingly aware of the hazards posed by air pollution. President Obama must ensure the EPA's ability to regulate this air pollution, including carbon dioxide.

All Messages: Supporting Our Clean Air Ambassadors.

Buffalo has another source of bad air, to wit, the Peace Bridge staging area for trucks.

Dr. Lockwood, thank you for standing up against those who would gut the Clean Air Act and dispose of the EPA.

I think we all need to be Clean Air Ambassadors. The question is will the president listen, especially now, when he's running for re-election and needs those campaign dollars.

Thank you, Dr. Lockwood! This is tremendous work!

Thank you, Alan, for defending our right to breathe clean air!

Dr. Lockwood, thanks for speaking out for clean air!
