RIGHT TO BREATHE: 50 STATES UNITED

Susan Falzon

The communities that host facilities like the Lafarge Cement Plant, whether willingly or not, need the protection of the government to ensure that they are not poisoned.

Profession: Retired
Group Affiliation: Friends of Hudson

Clean Air Ambassador:

Susan Falzon

Troy, New York

I've been concerned about air quality and air pollution since 1998 when I first became aware of power plant and cement plant permitting in upstate New York. In the broader community in which Friends of Hudson operates and has members, the cement industry has been of serious concern. The Lafarge Cement plant in Ravena, NY has been operating for almost 50 years. Over those years the plant has emitted significant amounts of pollutants and toxics, the effects of which have been visually apparent. But in the past decade we have become aware of the possible serious health effects as well.

The communities that host facilities like the Lafarge Cement Plant, whether willingly or not, need the protection of the government to ensure that they are not poisoned. Decision-makers in Washington, D.C. should create laws that are more protective of public health and the environment than of corporate profits. And they should ensure that these laws are enforceable and that industrial operations are monitored.

It is possible for industrial polluters such as the cement industry to produce far less pollution than they are permitted to do. Investments in newer pollution control technologies and in research and development will yield better air quality results than current operations do. It is imperative that the federal government require these companies to make such investments in order to have the privilege of extracting and using our natural resources.

All Messages: Supporting Our Clean Air Ambassadors.

Susan thank you for stepping to the plate and fighting the good fight.
Air and water quality affects everyone.
NO MORE HYDRO FRACKING!!!!!!
We have to stop the industrial polluters
that are destroying our environment for pure
greed!!!!..thank you again.... We support you

Without cleaner air, a lot of other people will be joining me in a long breath through an inhaler.

Thanks for supporting our lives' resources, and for your leadership, a rare virtue today!

thank you for devoting your time to protecting clean air. it is such important work and we appreciate it.

It is a very diffferent world than I grew up in, and unfortunately I don't feel that its an improvement. I know every generation says this same thing because I remember being annoyed whenever I heard my grandmother say this. I enjoyed things in my youth tha t I took for granted until lately. The children of today have much to deal with with out the hidden dangers in our environment. All the things we do in the name of progress and dvelopment semm to exploit this planet for all its natural resources and give back polution and harmful byproducts. Pleasse help to represent us in an effort to clean up our planet, our air, and our social decay to procure for future generations. Thank you, PLANET RESIDENT.

thanks for protecting our air.
clean air is our right

Keep up the good work!

Thank you for protecting the air we breath.

Thank you for your true leadership, rare and precious. Many are behind you!

Thank you. Am sharing on facebook. You and other activists, like the anti-fracking people, anti- GMO folks, are doing your best to ensure that our kids and grandkids HAVE a future!

Thank you for your work to help change hazardous health conditions for all living things that have regrettably been created by humans for corporate greed, sadly with the consent of elected officials.

It's hard work to fight against the greed of big business who put profit ahead of the health of the nation and the world. Thank you for your efforts. Don't give up. We support you!

What we breathe and what we drink are vital in maintaining a healthy body free of disease. Plain and simple, "Pollution makes people sick." It also poisons us, leads to diseases, and it will eventually lead to death. That message is as plain as the nose on your face. That is why we need to act now and stand our ground in support of all legislation for clean air and water. People's health is more important than corporate profits.

Destruction of the environment is national suicide. Keep up the good fight!

Susan, thank you for traveling to DC and speaking out for all of us.

Thank you for speaking out and taking our concerns to Washington. Without clean air and clean water, humans, plants and animals cannot flourish. No one should have the right to take clean air and clean water away from us.

Getting young people to understand, care & act is the key.

cleaan air is necessary for public health

Air and water quality affect everyone regardless of income levels. Wealthy people are effected along with poor.

We are fouling our own nest by polluting the air and water.

Amen Sister. Problem is money out weighs everything - including the health of its residents. Bless you for speaking out!

We need to become responsible. If smoke and exhaust pollution inexorably destroy monuments and old buildings, why will it spare us?

Are we smart enough to stop shooting our selves in the foot before the dance.

As a person who is Asthmatic, it's important for me to breathe clean air and stop from having an asthma attack. Continue to fight for people's right to breathe clean air.

Our air quality in Rochester, NY recently tested poor -- a big surprize to me, and largely due to emissions hundreds of miles to the west. We all need strict federal clean air regulations to protect us from filthy greed.

Thanks for supporting our ability to live on our planet

"keep holding on". Fight the good fight.
It is true those people who care only about money over the healths and wellbeing of people will maybe wake up and smell the coffee and then realize their follies of being careless towards people's safety and health. Where there is an action there is a reaction. There is always a consequence or an aftermath of having done wrong to others. Don't give up the fight.

S O S Save Our Sole-home Planet Earth

Those who worship the almighty dollar over the health and safety of other people and our environment will wake up one day and realize you can't eat, drink, and in any way live off of money. We need fresh air, fresh water, quality food.
We, the people, DO NOT want polluters to run this nation any more, and what we say will come to pass.

Dear Susan,
Here in central New York we are poised to be inundated by the fracking industry as they drill the Marcellus Shale 24/7 for natural gas. In states like Wyoming where fracking has gone unchecked, their wide open spaces have given way to air quality alerts that rival Los Angeles on it's worst possible days, when elderly and children are advised to stay indoors. We need absolutely clear legislation that will protect us from falling prey to the results of such unchecked practices. Thank you so much for stepping up to the plate and being our ambassador.

Kudos.

Thank you for fighting for clean air and clean water!

I want my children and my children's children to have the to right to breathe clean fresh air. It should be a right of all people everywhere.
Let's not let corporate interests run our government.

Stop destroying the planet now! We do actually happen to live on it, and if pollution continues in the same manner as it has been, we will die. Period.

You set an example for the rest of us!

We the people clearly say, We want clean air and more protections from big business. We want polluters accountable. We sign petitions, write letters, and yet when you look at what is going on in the US and abroad it makes you wonder who the decision makers are listening to. Of all people to go to represent us, you are the one. Let us know how it goes.

Until we have Clean Elections (=public-funded), MONEY will continue to talk louder than all the fine words and advocacy of many citizens, such as for issues as this one. Letting us win occasional battles is the small bones they throw us, but who can disagree that MONEY is the most important winner in our political life so far?
Republicans more bought out by MONEY than Democrats? Not by much, I'd say.

Those of us with offspring want to protect them and ensure they have the best life possible, NOT expose them to carcinogens and other harmful substances. Thanks for what you're doing to help!

Thank you for your hard work!

NYC sends positive vibes your way, Susan! Thank you!

Thank You Susan it is good to know that maybe there is hope for the human race after all*

We support you!

If it wasn't for the monetary system, everything would be safe, clean and above the the natural standards. But sense people like to have the pre disposition to live with limitations that money provides or lack thereof many things will go un accomplished, unsustained and many things will not be created. It is sad and pathetic that I have to even write to a Congressman or whomever to support CLEAN air. Without clean air the human race dies and many other species currently alive.

Thank you for all of your time and efforts!

I just saw an Exxon Mobile commercial for "natural gas found to be just below the surface...", better known, though not stated, as hydro fracking. With statements and ads like these running rampant throughout the mega energy media men - it is a pleasure to see and hear a thinking woman. Thank you.

You set an example for the rest of us!

We support you!

Were we to act as if our 7th generation is important, things would be different. We need to do whatever's possible to have clean air and water, and to ensure that, hold polluters accountable, and protect communities. This needs to happen all over the country. Thanks for your help.

Good for you Susan. You make us all proud.
Dan

Thank you Susan!!!
