West Virgina Highlands Conservancy

Formed in 1967 to preserve the natural beauty of the West Virginia Highlands, the Conservancy is the state's oldest environmental advocacy organization. The Conservancy has been instrumental in preventing the flooding of Canaan Valley, in creating and expanding Wilderness areas in the Monongahela National Forest, and for the past four decades has been a leader in citizen efforts on a variety of water and mining issues critical to protecting the environment and life throughout West Virginia.
