Interactive Designer

The Interactive Designer is responsible for creating and producing interactive digital features on our web site that tell the story about the people and work of Earthjustice. This person should have the demonstrated ability to tell a story using words, photos, video and data. The stories may be used to support any combination of: advocacy, press, education and fundraising.

Responsibilities

Interactive Development (40%)

  • Works with content producers and the Senior Interactive Designer to develop, build and maintain digital storytelling features.
  • Create additional collateral to assist in promotion of digital features.

Web Development (40%)

  • Works with the Senior Web Producer to plan, build and maintain the web site infrastructure including new templates, modules, etc.
  • Works with various content producers to upload, maintain and refine press releases, blogs and other institutional content on the web site.

 Visual/Brand Responsibilities (20%)

  • Stay well-informed about Earthjustice issues and priorities in order to make proactive recommendations about storytelling opportunities.
  • Works with the Devo/Communications teams to maintain a strong, consistent visual and written style that supports our brand.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and applications, and work with the digital team to determine appropriate implementation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in computer science, graphic design, communications, or environmental studies.
  • Proven success in designing and developing effective web pages.
  • 3+ years’ experience with web design and online communications technologies.
  • Experience applying technology to law firms and/or nonprofit organizations.
  • Knowledge of environmental issues preferred.
  • Understanding of and passion for interactive technology.
  • Ability to understand and articulate complex editorial issues.
  • Strong sense of design layout, typography and photography.
  • Strong web skills: Drupal, PHP, HTML, CSS, Javascript/jQuery
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Detail oriented with ability to juggle multiple priorities.
  • A willingness to work in a fast-paced environment and to work in collaboration with other Earthjustice staff members.
  • Demonstrates an awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds and orientations.
  • Contributes to the creation of a diverse, equitable and inclusive work culture that encourages and celebrates differences.
