Six Easy Things the Obama Administration Can Do to Heal Our Environment

Earthjustice will be busy helping to clean up damage left from Bush administration

Over the last eight years Earthjustice has been busy defending America's environment from Bush administration efforts that favored industry and resource extraction over the environment.  

Earthjustice president Trip Van Noppen said, "We won far more than we lost, but we didn't win them all. Some of the Bush/Cheney anti-environmental policies will outlast this presidency. Even with the election of Barack Obama, there will be plenty of work to do to reverse the most damaging of these anti-environment rules and restore balance to the environment. Earthjustice expects to be very busy in the years to come helping to clean up all the damage."

Earthjustice has identified six critical areas where the new Obama administration can take fairly quick and easy steps to stop or reverse some of the environmental damage wrought by the Bush administration. 

There are many other things the new administration could and should do to heal the environmental damage caused by the Bush administration. This list is not all encompassing, but it's a start.

They are:

  1. Limit CO2 emissions under the Clean Air Act
  2. Restore the Endangered Species Act
  3. Restore the Roadless Area Conservation Rule
  4. Restore Protections for America's Rivers, Streams, Lakes, and Wetlands
  5. Address Arctic Oil and Gas Development
  6. Adopt Stronger Energy Efficiency Standards
