The Northeast has the country’s longest history of industrial pollution, and aging facilities continue to harm the region’s residents and the environment. Earthjustice is working to help states strengthen their environmental standards and to modernize their industrial facilities.

    • Taming the Dragon
      People in and around Thomaston, Maine, were concerned that the Dragon Cement Plant was making them and their children sick. They formed Neighbors for a Safe Dragon, and brought pressure on the plant’s operators to run the plant safely and cleanly. Debby Atwell, a founder of Neighbors, tells the story.
