After a 136-day confirmation fight, the longest for any U.S. Environmental Protection Agency administrator in history, the U.S. Senate voted 59–40 today to confirm Gina McCarthy to lead the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The following is a statement from Earthjustice President Trip Van Noppen:
“We’re pleased that the partisan sea of the Senate has finally parted to allow a new EPA administrator on the job. After months of obstruction and polluter-sanctioned stall tactics, we’re glad to see the Republican leadership drop its political brinksmanship against this very well qualified leader to run the EPA and oversee the people’s protections.
“We look forward to working with Administrator McCarthy to implement the President’s climate plan, clean up our nation’s waterways, and safeguard the air we breathe so all Americans can live safe, healthy lives.”
