Donor-Advised Fund Succession Plan

Ensure your wishes are fulfilled instead of allowing an advisor to make the decision for you

A donor-advised fund succession plan is an important part of your overall estate plan and charitable legacy. It involves directing your DAF sponsor on how to handle or distribute assets remaining in your charitable giving fund after your lifetime.

Without a succession plan, funds remaining in your DAF will most likely be rolled into the sponsor’s own charitable fund, to be distributed as the sponsor chooses — not according to your wishes.

There is no downside to making a DAF succession plan. You can update your beneficiaries or successor advisors at any time.

Distribute to Your Favorite Organizations

  • A DAF succession plan allows you to direct that the balance remaining in your fund after your lifetime be immediately donated to Earthjustice and/or other charities.
  • If you decide to name Earthjustice a beneficiary of your DAF, please let us know so we can thank you.
  • Our gift planning team is always available to discuss your succession plan or other legacy giving opportunities that align with your philanthropic objectives. Please contact us, if you’re interested.

Distribute Funds Indirectly Through Successor Advisors

  • You can appoint one or more loved ones to take over management of your DAF as successor advisors. This empowers them to make charitable contributions to causes close to their hearts and experience the joys of giving directly.
  • Note that successor advisors may not share your philanthropic goals and cannot be bound to supporting your preferred charities.

Divide Your Account

  • Direct some funds to be distributed directly to the charity of your choice, and the remaining funds may be distributed by successor advisors.
  • We hope you will consider affirming your environmental legacy by including Earthjustice in your DAF succession plan.

Please contact Earthjustice’s Planned Gifts team to discuss your succession plan or other ways of giving that align with your philanthropic objectives.

Why We Give to Earthjustice

“We have an old T-shirt from Earthjustice: an image of a spotted owl with the caption, ‘I’ve got a good lawyer.’

“Wildlife, ecosystems, and other environmental causes need smart, dedicated attorneys. Earthjustice fills that need and we’re proud to support it.”
