"Without offices like ENRD, our environmental laws are nothing more than words on paper."

This week, President Donald Trump gutted the Environment and Natural Resources Division (ENRD) of the U.S. Department of Justice. The ENRD represents the government’s interests in environmental cases. Its apolitical career civil servants offer tremendous skill and expertise in U.S. environmental law and regulation.

Additionally, Attorney General Pam Bondi formally rescinded all previous orders, memos, and directives regarding environmental justice informing the Department of Justice’s work.

“ENRD lawyers are hardly activists or environmentalists. In fact, they are routinely our opponents in court,” said Earthjustice Senior Vice President of Programs Sam Sankar. “Even so, Attorney General Bondi’s attack on them is not just an attack on our health and our environment, but an attack on our national integrity. Without offices like ENRD, our environmental laws are nothing more than words on paper.”
