The Board of Trustees and staff of Earthjustice express our profound sorrow and deepest sympathies to the family for the loss of our great friend and longtime trustee, Fred Meyer. Fred was a rock and source of great wisdom, fidelity, clarity and constancy of vision, accountability, perception, humor, compassion and worldly acumen and knowledge.
He spoke his mind, but always with tact and a smile and the purpose of providing constructive guidance. He was devoted to the organization and its mission, which he served and supported unstintingly during the period 1999–2011, and was a shining reminder that we will succeed by avoiding narrow visions and by being bold and inclusive.
Fred lived a rich life full of interests; he was a strong athlete and adventurous traveler, loved the outdoors and spent many happy times in Vermont, Maine and New Mexico. His strong and generous spirit manifested in innumerable ways. Fred will be missed by his family, friends and associates from all walks of life.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sat., March 8 at the First Congregational Church in Old Greenwich, CT.

Trip Van Noppen served as Earthjustice’s president from 2008 until he retired in 2018. A North Carolina native, Trip said of his experience: “Serving as the steward of Earthjustice for the last decade has been the greatest honor of my life.”
