Today, President Barack Obama rejected the construction plans for the Keystone XL pipeline, an enormous project to transport dirty, carbon-intensive energy from the Canadian tar sands fields to the Gulf Coast for export.

The following is a statement from Earthjustice President Trip Van Noppen:

“We commend and applaud President Obama and his administration for courageously choosing the right path for our country. This decision shows tremendous leadership and regard for our nation’s future.

“In the face of rapid climate change, clean, abundant, renewable energy must be our investment and focus.

“It’s a good day in America when the people triumph over polluters. Energy security, economic prosperity and environmental safety will be the rewards of today’s good decision.”
