The Supreme Court draft opinion on Dobbs v. Jackson is poised to overturn Roe v. Wade, which constitutionally protects access to abortions. In response, Earthjustice President Abigail Dillen issued the following statement:

“We hope that the leaked draft opinion in Dobbs does not accurately predict the Court’s final opinion or the outcome of the case. But if it does, it proves that the Court’s conservative supermajority intends to upend nearly fifty years of constitutionally protected rights to a safe and legal abortion, a dangerous step in advancing a political agenda that could overturn established rights and precedents.

“Overturning Roe and Casey would impact Black, Brown, and low-income people across this country the most — those who already face barriers to access abortion care. If the Court’s final opinion is similar to this document, our nation will face not only a public health crisis, but a crisis of legitimacy for our highest Court.”
