Today, the White House Council of Environmental Quality announced the appointment of Dr. Jalonne White-Newsome as senior director for environmental justice.

The following is a statement by Martin Hayden, Earthjustice’s vice president of Policy and Legislation:

“Earthjustice whole heartedly supports the appointment of Dr. Jalonne White-Newsome as senior director for environmental justice. An experienced and qualified leader, Dr. White-Newsome is a visionary leader who is passionate about addressing environmental injustices across the country. We look forward to working with her in ensuring that those communities most impacted by decades of environmental racism receive the support they deserve. We are also confident she will ensure the administration’s climate policies are centered in justice and equity for underserved communities, and to achieve a pollution-free, 100% clean energy future for all.”
