The following statement is from Earthjsutice managing attorney David Guest on Gov. Charlie Crist’s decision to veto a flawed seagrass bill recently passed by the Florida legislature:
“We applaud Gov. Charlie Crist for his decision, announced in Tallahassee today, to veto the flawed seagrass bill passed by the 2008 Florida Legislature.
“This bill contained a poison pill, inserted by lobbyists for developers in a late-night meeting without any public discussion, that would have threatened thousands of acres of underwater marine nursery grounds in Florida.
“We look forward to working with policy makers to craft environmentally responsible seagrass legislation in the coming year.”
