Today, President Biden nominated adjunct Georgetown University Professor Monica Medina to serve as assistant secretary in the Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Science Affairs at the State Department. The bureau’s mission is to advance America’s security and prosperity through international leadership on oceans, environment, science, space, and health.

Medina formerly served as a principal deputy under secretary of commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere, director of ocean policy at the National Geographic Society and as general counsel of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
