Petition for Review, Methylene Chloride Risk Evaluation

A coalition of community, labor, and environmental groups filed a petition challenging the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) final methylene chloride risk evaluation, which unlawfully determined that manufacturing, disposal, and several other uses of methylene chloride present no unreasonable risk.

Comments on Draft Scope for Risk Evaluations for 20 High Priority Chemicals

Community groups representing people living in Louisiana and Texas, along with Earthjustice, are submitting comments asking EPA to consider their communities to be “potentially exposed and susceptible subpopulations.” These communities live in the shadows of facilities that release toxic chemicals into air, water and soil, many of which are produced and released in high volumes in the Cancer Alley area of Louisiana and the Gulf region in both states.

EPA's Secret Chemical Problem, Unveiled

Earthjustice and the Environmental Defense Fund released a joint investigation showing how Trump's EPA violates TSCA on a regular basis. From August of 2016 through April of 2019, Earthjustice and EDF reviewed over 200 new chemical applications in detail, as well as all notices EPA published to inform the public of the applications it received from 2016 through early 2020, or about 1,700 applications.

Legal Complaint: TSCA Lawsuit

Health and environmental organizations represented by Earthjustice sued Trump’s EPA for violating TSCA. According to TSCA, the public has a right to know and provide input about new chemicals EPA is reviewing. Instead, EPA repeatedly and unlawfully conceals documents, and ignores other transparency rules.
