Wyoming wants gray wolves off the endangered species list
The anti-wolf crowd in Wyoming has this irrational fear of wolves, and no amount of evidence can calm them. These are the folks who want to turn back the clock to the Wild West days where they could kill every wolf they see—and, unfortunately, the Interior Department is going to let them do just that in most of the state.
It’s hard to believe that, in this day and age, recklessly killing wolf pups would be encouraged by a state government, but that is what we are facing. The state of Wyoming is openly discussing taking dogs from a dog pound to the backcountry, staking them dead or alive until wolves arrive, and then killing the wolves on sight. The sad part is that this would be perfectly legal in most of the state.
After we wiped wolves out in the western United States, they were listed as an endangered species under the Endangered Species Act. Wolves were the missing link in Yellowstone. Without wolves, elk became too abundant and overgrazed grasses and shrubs. With wolves back, everything from ground squirrels to songbirds have been positively affected and we now have a fully functioning ecosystem.
Earthjustice has been fighting so that wolves will survive and prosper, and so that Yellowstone and other special places will have wolves on the ground for centuries to come. (See how you can help.) We want to ensure that our grandchildren and people from around the world can come to Yellowstone and see nature as it existed for centuries.
Others care about the gray wolf as well. Headline News’ Jane Velez-Mitchell and I spoke about it on national television today and we hope to educate people throughout the country about the barbaric tactics being considered:
Once you hear the call of a wolf in the wild, you are hooked. They remind us what wilderness is all about; they teach us about the natural world. We want future generations to be able to hear a wolf howl in the wild, and learn the importance of protecting these special creatures.
Take action today and send a letter to President Obama, urging his Administration to save Wyoming’s remaining wolves and oppose any plan that allows politics to decide the fate of an imperiled species.
The People who want to save the NON-NATIVE species of wolf, have a hatred for hunters, for ranchers, for people, and for Jesus Christ. Why did the christian settlers who settled the west, want to get rid of the wolves? I thought it was because it was either them or the wolves. People who live in their little sheltered comunities don't see the death, destruction and waste these evil predators do. I think to solve this problem we need the supporters of wolves to donate money to collar and keep the wolves in yellowstone park, by electronic shocking collars. Otherwise the hunter loses meat for his/her freezer, the cattle rancher loose money out of his pocket, the sheep herder loose money out of their pockets, and the price of beef, lamb, and wool goes up.
I was just thinking about the words of Jesus Christ, he told us to beware of wolves in sheeps clothing.... Well with all these wolf supporters, it looks like they are the wolves in sheeps clothing, looking to devour us, that Jesus Christ warned us about.
Leave these beautiful creatures alone!!!!!!!

Leave these beautiful creatures alone!!!!!!!

We ARE what we put out in life, and whether we like it or not, we are all connected to each other. Without one, the other cannot possibly survive. It is not a matter of of "choosing" to put animals on the back burner if they are problematic, or unwanted, or burdensome, because in the end, it will affect all positive energy in this universe, mankind included.
Just because man is the dominant species on the planet doesn't give him the right to do as he pleases. We share this planet with many different life forms and because we do, we should respect their individual right to continue being a part of the ecosystem without prejudice. After all, MAN is encroaching on their natural habitats - not the other way around!
We are part of a creation. God created us and the animals, he also told us to have dominion over them. Man isn't encroaching on their habitat you antichrist. Why don't you have some wolves planted in your backyard. It is irritating when you antichrist, tell the rest of us how to live. Why is it that you say it is good for us but it is never good for you. I don't see wolves being reintroduced back in new york, california etc.....
Leave the wolves be, they have as much a right to roam free. Who are we to decide to start killing animals???? The hunters want their prey, THE ELK, all to themselves so therefore we have to destroy the wolf who prey on the elk to survive.....
As a lover of all animals I think that there are many other solutions to the problems the ranchers have involving the wolves and live stock. The solution is not killing the wolves. Relocation of wolves to areas that have elk, like Arizona might be a possibility. How about a better protective barrier that doesn't allow the wolves access to the live stock. Electric fencing, motion detectors of the surrounding the ranches, alerting to trespassing. Wolves are very smart animals they won't continue to go back to a place that has zero opportunity of catching a meal. Let's be real about the situation, the wolves aren't killing just to kill, they are hungry and they feed off of the animals they kill. Whatever is a natural predator of the wolf , mountain lions , bears, nature itself has a way of balancing , if we just let mother nature do her thing.
To the person who left a sarcastic comment about pets being killed by wolves, I would never want a pet to be killed by anything. As a child we raised Siberian Husky's that killed cats that jumped over into the yard.It was horrible to hear the screams of the cats as they die, but that being said we didn't go out and shoot our dogs.My dog actually did get a hold of my cat and I was able to break them up before she killed my cat. My cat had his jaw pinned and lived 18yrs. after the incident. I never was mad at my dog and I sure didn't kill her over the incident.
Would if that cat was a child,or my child that dog would be dead in my world
It appears that most contributors to this thread envision two options--either 1) kill all of the wolves or 2) kill none at all. The most desirable outcome for most Wyoming residents would be a stable, managed wolf population, yet no where in this discussion do I see much interest in compromise. Hunters and ranchers must accept some loss to livestock and game populations while wolf "advocates" must accept that human existence requires the consumption of resources and understand that their personal preferences are not sacrosanct. The biggest obstacle to settling this dispute has been the reluctance of wolf-advocates to establish (or hold to) firm population targets with the understanding that excess wolves will be managed to avoid "overpopulation". There is little to be gained by allowing nature to "take its course". Left alone, wolf populations and the populations of their prey will cycle dramatically, and there is little to be gained by such fluctuation in numbers. We must also remember that harvesting wild game is less destructive than destroying entire ecosystems to grow crops of soy, corn, etc. While the human population is far too great to rely solely on wild food, we should nevertheless utilize such resources to the greatest extent possible, and should praise rather than deride those who make the effort to do so.
Just let nature do its thing and not have us try to control everything. Just let the wolfs be.
Cruelty is never right.
And teaching wolves to come after domestic dogs is a really bad idea. I have heard stories of people losing dog after dog to wolves, so though I want to see the wolves protected, I don't want my dog killed by wolves either.
Teaching wolves to come after dogs, are you serious ! What school did these teachers go to. You probably don't even own a dog. Go become a teacher of wolves, good luck.
I feel they need to suggest a different approach. In truth animals have been on this earth longer then humans. It is their home as much as our home. When you destroy a top predator of a local ecosystem, it will have very big effects.
Is ranchers, not wolves. Too bad so many here have lost sight of that
I am not only sad for these beautiful creatures that our creator has gifted the earth with, but also for the creatures that walk upright and decide what to do with the balance of our earth by solutions of destruction. It's shameful to read the debate in these posts! It amazes me how human empathy can turn so ugly when trying to prove whose beliefs are right. Instead of bickering about it, use that passion and get involved in finding a solution.
More than likely you will not post my comments against your way of thinking. After all, I am on the Ranchers side in Wyoming. I live in TEXAS and have a small Ranch and raise animals for me and my family. I consider a wolf or wolves attacking livestock no different than a thief stealing my hard eared or hard to raise property. When it comes to Me and my family eating or a Wolf, Panther, Skunk which some are human (A notorious chicken thief) or any other animal attacking my livestock, I PICK MY FAMILY EACH AND EVERY TIME.
After reading some of the posts here I understand your side also, but, have you considered the ranchers side. NO!. Then make donations for the full price of adult livestock and the offspring that would have been produced that year each and every time a wolf kills so the rancher can draw off funds for compensation. Don't want to donate to that fund to keep the wolves alive. Then you don't have the right to stop ranchers from protecting livestock!
You say the wolves were here first and have the right to hunt their prey. I agree and also want to state that there is still many places were the wolves cannot be hunted or killed as long as they stay in these places. They don't stay there, do they. O.K, then donate to a protection fund that will put a bright visual shock collar on each and every wolf in the wild that can be located and donate more $ so the ranchers can have free technology (yes free to ranchers because after all, the Ranchers solution only cost them the price of a bullet usually and they should not have to pay for your way of thinking) that can be put into place that will cause a mild shock emanating from the collar when a wolf enters within a signals short range capability to keep the wolf or wolves away from domestic prey on their property. But of course you will need still more money to be put into place for agencies to collar and then maintain the ability to keep the wolves away from domestic livestock and replace the batteries on a regular basis. Think of all the new jobs your donations will create and then if a wolf or wolves enters a place it should not be, The Rancher has the right to to kill each and every one on His or Her property.
This is fair to both sides and keeps the wolves away from the places where the property owner will end its life. Hmm, not willing to go that far are you? All you want to do is complain about ranchers protecting livestock from wolves when there are so many hungry people who need your help more than the wolves do. Thought of that, No, Then you don't have the right to speak against someone from protecting livestock. Have you considered the livestock have just as much rights as wolves to live unmolested on their owners property. Hmmmmm, Nooooooo? Even the shepherds in the Bible protected their animals from wolves. (Remember David who slew Goliath? How do you think he got that good with a sling?) This will make you atheists mad but I don't care, after all I am am voicing my way of thinking, not yours! Go to another web site to start complaining rather than use one that is about wolves.
After reading this you still don't like my proposal that will keep the majority of wolves free and alive?
THEN COME UP WITH A BETTER SOLUTION THAN COMPLAINING OR MINE THAT BENEFITS BOTH SIDES THEN.
BY THE WAY, DON'T ASK THE TAX PAYERS TO PAY TO KEEP THE WOLVES ALIVE.. THE MAJORITY ARE ON THE RANCHERS SIDE WHO PRODUCE THE FOOD THEY EAT. YES THE MAJORITY!
Since I have now made so many of you mad at me for my right to voice my way of thinking, I pray that you may have food to eat in the future since so many of us have many other hardships also to contend with. Especially drought here in TEXAS. We are after all, barely making a living. Think of food prices if we gave into all the different ways of thinking that every one has. A hamburger costing $500.00, A dozen eggs cost $100.00. It could happen. Look at food prices compared to just 10 years ago. Think about the other persons side too and not just your own. There are solutions, but are you willing to pay the vast amounts of money to implement them? I can't afford them. But I can afford a the cost of a bullet.
Since you have been chosen to be placed in a stewardship position over your animals, then take CARE of your animals. Simply throwing up barbed wire and hoping for the best is lazy. I'm glad you pick your family but it's not your family that is being DIRECTLY threatened. Large predators are essential and vital to the bigger picture of a diverse ecology and a balanced, sustainable world; the return of the wolves to Yellowstone has painted a very clear picture of that, and in ways large and small that nobody ever imagined.
The "KILL THEM ALL!" crowd had their way decades ago and we learned a painful and costly lesson. Your apparent advocacy of a return to that arrogant position reveals a pretty self-centered and narrow vision for which there is no place in this world anymore and your rhetoric suggests more panicked emotion than clear, calm, rational thought.
There ARE ranchers who have found ways to work with the wolf in sustainable ways. Clearly you've given this a lot of thought and I trust you will open your mind wide enough to give those workable strategies a thorough consideration.
What painful costly lesson? I am confused, What is so painful, about having an abundance of elk, deer, moose, antelope? What is so painful about cattle and sheep farmers knowing that their herds won't be wiped out by a pack of wolves? What is so painful about a family not having to worry about a pack of wolves killing their family pet, or worse yet killing some of their children. Hey why can't we reintroduce wolves in your back yard?
why set up traps to catch them in order to kill ? the only one that has a right to take a life be it animal or human is God .when did he step down so u could take his place?
Remember, God did create the wolves, they are wild animals who are very aggresive hunters. God needs to control their #'s (maybe you could train the new born pups, just try to get near them I dare you)
The wolves need to be managed just as all species need to be managed. If you want them to be part of the ecosystem man is the only one to control their numbers or they will over populate also (make sense). If you would bother to look at the statistics so far on hunting wolves the success rate isn't very good, so I don't think you have to worry that they will be wiped out. Maybe your group could offer to pay the ranchers for the livestock that is killed by the wolves, have you ever offered? I'm sure no one has offered right, but the rancher is just suppose to take the loss ( real fair ).
I have been reading the responses to some blogs and I do understand both sides, but the solution is not to kill.....Why do people , specifically ranchers, think that killing is the only solution. I have read that there are others that have been able to overcome the problem in a non violent way, so as a responsible owner protect your livestock... you choose this as your lively hood so its not anyone's responsiblility to PAY for ony loss, it's up to the ranchers to be innovative and protect their animals without adding murder to the solution. As for a burger costing 500 dollars.... i think that people will become vegetarians....You need to educate yourself and find out how they fit into our ecosystem....Each time people play God our planet suffers a loss. Sooner than later our planet will turn on us because of everything humans are depleting from this delicate balance of planet Earth... Get higher fences or fences that will give a shock but not harm the animal...If you are so worried about wolves... why havent you been proactive and ensured their safety years ago... you could of had proper fences and security in place but you chose to complain and go for the kill.... Glad you thought it through so well.NOT
I understand its your way of life, but anyone who can slatter any animal has very little value for animals rights. I have seen enough videos on how farm animals are being treated and its discusting and cruel.... You may be an exception, but you still fall short as you think slattering wolves is ok.... where does all this abuse end... I will end by saying do something that others and our planet will benefit from without distroying the balance of life and our planey....

Maybe you should do a little research before you start posting comments. As a matter of fact, the federal government does pay ranchers for there lost livestock. Of course this isn't good enough because they actually have to do something to get this money. But hunter's don't want the wolves to kill and eat (not mount a head on there wall to show they know how to use a gun) elk because then it won't be as easy for them to find and kill elk. If the wolves don't kill and eat elk, what are they going to eat? livestock maybe? Humans are the dumbest creatures on this planet and will cause the demise of it!
Yeah, And it comes out of my taxes. Why don't you pay more in taxes. I hope you have to pay 500 for a burger. Most hunters I know eat there elk. Wolves have killed and left elk, deer and moose to rot. I think you need to live in the real world not in your million dollar mansion.
dude you are out of it...life is like a chain...break a link and you break the chain...we need predators to keep the prey down to a natural level...it is man that is destroying the world not wolves...
Since you say its man destroying the world and not a overpopulation of wolves, Do us all a favor and be the first to step forward to depopulate a overpopulated earth. Make the chain one link shorter. At least get sterilized and don't create any more links.
Excellant post, I'm with you
people there are like a million cows and pigs in the world not a lot of wolfs left get it in your head we are not god we do not have a right to kill off an animal that is almost gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My God, what in the *uck is wrong with people. there is no reason to kill these animals. and from airplanes yeah thats fair. I want to help, let me know what I can do.
If people are trying to kill grey wolves it's because the wolves are killing their livestock. Jane would you be upset if someone shut down your little show so you couldn't make a living. I think you would. It's fine they reintroduced them into the wild but when their are to many they need to be controled. When the wolves come into your town and start eating your puppy's and kitty's you will start to get the idea. Not that you make a living from fluffy.
Jane, when these wolves eat any of your pets you should feel good that they are not starving. These are very aggresive predetors and need to be hunted just like many wild animals. Here in Ohio we have coyoteyes in the suburbs killing anything smaller than them, Wake up
well then should we start getting rid of people do people need to be controlled think about what we do to the earth we are no better then other animals in fact what right do we have to pick which animals live and die?
Well you already have a start with the abortion mills, and now taking food out of peoples mouths. We do have a right, it is from our God and creator. I can tell that you are one of those antichrists. You are so worried about a vicious predator, that you don't care about what it slaughters and lays to waste. How many peoples lives have been affected.
Once again for nothing more than convenience for people, like not having to put up fencing, these beautiful animals are in danger. They have learned nothing, after wiping out the wolves in certain areas completely, there was then over population of elk. We must learn to leave nature alone, people do NOT have the right to decide who and what is allowed to survive. Not to mention the cruel, disgusting methods they may be able to use to first terrify this wonderful animal before killing them!! It shows the mentality of these people who would be willing to use innocent, intelligent dogs to bait wolves in close enough to kill them. People must take a stand to ensure the wolves are protected, we just must!!
What world do you live in, an over population of elk? People using dogs to bait. What illegal drugs do you take? I guess wolves have a higher standing in your mother earth worship. But in the Christian world, it is written that man has dominian over the animals. I guess the settlers were a bunch of inbred idiots in your book, when the settled and shot every wolf they could. People must take a stand and make sure that People are protect, it is the right thing todo.
Where can I get a wolf fence? Tractor Supply?
I've emailed the US Fish and Wildlife, to stop this INHUMANE SLAUGHTER, of wolves! This proposal is to insure HUNTERS, to come to hunt other animals, that wolves feed on. We ALL need to get involved!!!! Thanks You! Diane in CA
What's is more inhumane, a wolf pulling a baby elk out of it's mother and eating part of it before it kills the mother???? Get real people. Things were fine here in the "wild" west before some NONnative species of wolf were introduced. After reading some of the pro wolf comments I have come to the conclusion you are all a bunch of Jesus hating antichrists.
I'm emailing and calling the governor and US Fish and Wildlife
Stop killing the wolves or loose our votes!!!!!!!!!!!!
What, all 10 of them
