Community and Conservation Groups Ask Congress To Defend Clean Water Protections

Over 70 local, regional, and national environmental and community groups nationwide are calling on lawmakers to stand strong against a legislative attack on clean water. The Stream Protection Rule requires monitoring to detect harmful chemicals in surface water and groundwater – information that’s crucial to the health and safety of communities leaving in proximity to coal-mining operations.

Legal Document: Groups Move to Defend Pause in Federal Coal Leasing Against Lawsuit by Utah Counties

Conservation groups filed a motion in U.S. District Court to defend a pause in the outdated federal coal-leasing program against a legal challenge by two Utah counties. The pause was put in place by Interior Secretary Sally Jewell to allow the federal Bureau of Land Management time to review outdated policies for managing billions of tons of federal coal without locking federal lands into decades more of coal mining.
