Earthjustice Senior Vice President of Programs Sam Sankar released the following statement today on the confirmation of Todd Kim to lead the DOJ’s Environment and Natural Resources Division (ENRD).

“We are very pleased that the U.S. Senate today confirmed an outstanding choice to serve as assistant attorney general of the Department of Justice’s Environment and Natural Resources Division.

“Todd Kim is an incredible choice for AAG. His deep intellect, knowledge of environmental law, and commitment to public service should lead to stronger environmental protections. Earthjustice looks forward to working with Kim even when we have different perspectives on the law.

“Kim’s exceptional qualifications include: eight years as a career attorney in ENRD’s appellate section during the Clinton and Bush administrations and serving as the first solicitor general of the District of Columbia. Kim has been the attorney of record in hundreds of lawsuits and has argued more than 50 appeals in courts across the country, including the U.S. Supreme Court.

“ENRD will play an essential role in the president’s efforts to protect the environment, solve the climate crisis, and safeguard the most vulnerable communities.”
