Earthjustice Employee Benefits
To help our employees live and work well, Earthjustice provides a comprehensive employee benefits package and pays 100% of all health and welfare benefits premiums to all employees working at least 20 hours per week.
Coverage is also available for an employee’s spouse, domestic partner, or child (up to age 26) with the employee sharing in the cost of the dependent’s premiums.
Benefits become effective on the first of the month following employment.
Comprehensive Medical Plans
Employees may choose a Blue Shield PPO or EPO plan. In addition, employees in California, Colorado, D.C., or Washington may choose a Kaiser HMO plan. Employees in Hawaiʻi may choose an HMSA plan option.
Employees also have the choice of opting-out of the medical plan and/or the dental and vision plans for themselves and/or eligible dependents and receiving a stipend.
Dental PPO Plan
Annual maximum benefit of $2,500 through Delta Dental. In addition, for adults and children, it provides a lifetime orthodontia benefit of $2,000.
Our VSP vision plan covers an exam, eye glass lenses, and either frames or contacts every year.
403(b) Retirement Savings Plan
Employees may participate in our Newport Group plan right away.
Earthjustice will contribute 3.5% of the employee’s salary starting on their 1-year anniversary. On their 2-year anniversary, Earthjustice will contribute 9% of employee’s salary or 10% if the employee is making a voluntary contribution of at least 3% of their annual salary.
Contributions vest immediately.
Flexible Spending Accounts
Set aside up to $2,850 pre-tax dollars annually to pay for eligible medical care expenses and/or up to $5,000 pre-tax dollars annually to pay for eligible dependent care expenses.
Commuters can set aside up to $280 per month to pay for commuting expenses and up to $280 per month for parking.
Mental Health, Insurance Support, and Back-up Care
- Eight free counseling sessions per year per issue plus child/elder care referrals, and adoption assistance, through Claremont’s Employee Assistance Program. Available for employees and members of their household.
- Resources for mental wellness, through Modern Health, so you can be the best version of yourself, at home and at work. Six free counseling sessions and eight free coaching sessions for employees and their dependents plus unlimited access to Circles, which provides group sessions led by a therapist/coach, skill building workshops, and listen & learn sessions.
- Assistance for employees to navigate their health insurance and billing, through Health Advocate.
- Up to 10 days of subsidized child and/or adult and elder care, through Bright Horizons.
Life, ADD, and Disability Insurance
Earthjustice provides life and ADD insurance at a flat amount of $150,000. Employees can purchase additional life insurance and ADD, up to $500,000 for themself and up to $250,000 for their spouse. Child life and ADD is also available.
In the event that an employee is disabled beyond 90 days, Earthjustice provides long-term disability benefits through Unum, which will be paid at 60% of the employee’s weekly earnings.
Holidays and Year-End Holiday Shutdown
All eligible employees receive 15 paid holidays per year. This includes a year-end shutdown between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day.
In addition, employees receive two days of civic engagement leave, two floating holidays, and one birthday holiday, per year.
15 days of vacation per year for the first five years. The accrual rate increases to 20 days per year from years 6–10, and to 25 days per year at the beginning of the 11th year.
12 sick days per year (prorated to the hire date during the first year). Sick leave may accumulate from year to year. Part-time staff accrue on a prorated basis.
20 days of bereavement leave per calendar year for the passing of a loved one.
Leave of Absence
Employees are eligible for medical or family leave after six months of service. Earthjustice offers paid benefits of up to 16 weeks for both types of leave.
Employees with 10 years of continuous service are eligible to receive up to six weeks of fully paid sabbatical leave.

Employees can receive discounts through North Face, Patagonia, PrAna, Simms, ExpertVoice, and Keen.
Voluntary pet insurance with Nationwide and student loan refinancing with SoFi are also available.

COVID-19 Vaccination Policy
Earthjustice recognizes the vital role COVID-19 vaccines play in keeping staff safe. The importance of in-person activities (travel, court appearances, staff meetings, etc.) underscore the need for staff to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
As a result, Earthjustice requires staff to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment consistent with applicable law. Earthjustice defines being fully vaccinated as having received all recommended COVID-19 vaccines, including any booster dose(s) when eligible, per CDC guidance.
