Question: What happens when you mix Lady Gaga, clean air and a Basque flash mob?
Answer: This video.
Gipuzkoa Zero Waste, a group organized against a waste incineration plant that will be built in San Sebastian, Spain, spent seven months organizing the song and dance routine—which is set to the tune of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance.” More than 2000 people participated in the demand for clean air.
It’s heartening to see people in other countries declaring their right to breathe, and I wish the Gipuzkoa Zero Waste group the best of luck. In the U.S., we’re up against a bad romance of a different kind: the love between some members of Congress and the polluting industries that are making our air unsafe to breathe.
I think it’s time for the “it’s not you, it’s me” conversation.
