The Fight for Climate Action Continues as the U.S. Withdraws from Paris Agreement
The Trump administration formally withdrew the U.S. from the Paris Agreement today, making it the only nation in the world that is not part of this landmark climate accord. A new president could rejoin the Paris Agreement on day one.
The following is a statement from Earthjustice staff attorney Erika Rosenthal:
“The Trump administration has spent four years undermining climate progress to benefit big polluters. It’s shameful that while votes are still being counted, they are defying the will of the American people, who overwhelmingly support staying in the Paris Agreement.
“In these uncertain times, one thing is clear: the climate crisis is here, and it is an existential threat. No matter who wins this election, we must continue to push for progress at every level to move towards a 100% pollution-free, clean energy economy.
“Earthjustice and our partners will continue using the power of the law to keep fossil fuels in the ground, hold our leaders accountable, and advance bold and equitable climate solutions.”
