Earthjustice Congratulates Michael Regan on his Confirmation as EPA Administrator
Today, the Senate confirmed Michael S. Regan, formerly the secretary of the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, to lead the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). A former associate vice president for clean energy and Southeast regional director at the Environmental Defense Fund, Regan also served under the Environmental Protection Agency’s air quality and energy programs for the Clinton and Bush administrations. After four years of destructive environmental policies, EPA needs a fair-minded leader who will tackle the climate crisis, address the burden of pollution on communities, and lead enforcement of stronger standards that truly protect public health.
The following is a statement from Earthjustice President Abigail Dillen:
“We congratulate EPA Administrator Regan on his confirmation and look forward to working with him on some of the biggest crises facing our nation. He will play a key role in following the facts and the science to address the climate crisis and deliver environmental justice. The new EPA must pursue a bold and equitable transition to a pollution-free, 100% clean energy economy that works for everyone, starting with emissions reductions and robust investment in the low-income communities and communities of color that bear the brunt of industrial pollution and the climate crisis.
“No community can be left behind as we recover from COVID-19 and transform our country to overcome the intertwined crises of climate change, racial injustice, and growing economic inequality.”
