Earthjustice Senior Vice President of Programs Sam Sankar released this statement today on the nomination of Todd Kim to serve as Assistant Attorney General of the Environment and Natural Resources Division (ENRD) at the U.S. Department of Justice:

Background: Kim is currently the deputy general counsel for Litigation, Regulation, and Enforcement at the U.S. Department of Energy. His prior government service includes more than seven years as an appellate attorney with the Environment and Natural Resources Division of the Department of Justice. Kim will lead some 550 lawyers who work for ENRD, representing the government in cases involving everything from pollution to public lands, and from wildlife to tribal sovereignty. ENRD lawyers prosecute cases that enforce important environmental laws like the Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, and Superfund law.
