The U.S. House of Representatives today adopted a $3.5 trillion budget resolution that opens the door for historic investments in key climate and environmental justice programs. The Senate passed its budget resolution earlier this month. Congressional committees have until September 15 to develop their legislative proposals that will make up the budget reconciliation bill needed to implement this resolution.

The following is a statement from Marty Hayden, Vice President of Policy and Legislation at Earthjustice:

“At this make-or-break moment for our climate and our future, Congress has taken a critical step towards passing the big, bold, and equitable investments we need to preserve a livable planet. We applaud Speaker Nancy Pelosi for her leadership in advancing this vital measure. The House budget resolution unlocks unprecedented investments to accelerate our transition to a zero-emissions, clean energy future, and advance environmental justice. Now Congress must take the next step in the budget process, crafting and passing the historic legislation required to meet President Biden’s climate and environmental justice commitments.”
