A new poll released Thursday, June 3, revealed support for President Joe Biden’s infrastructure proposal across the political spectrum in Nevada’s 3rd and 4th Congressional Districts. Combined, the two districts encompass Las Vegas and the southern part of the state. This survey, providing district-specific data on how voters view the American Jobs Plan (AJP), is sponsored by Earthjustice, Environment America, and Sierra Club Toiyabe Chapter.

The poll found that overall, voters in the 3rd district support the bill by a 61% to 31% margin, while voters in the 4th district support the bill by a 59% to 35% margin. Further, 52% of 3rd District voters and 60% of 4th District voters said Congress should pass the bill if a bipartisan majority of the U.S. public supports it, even if Congress does not reflect that bipartisanship.

On multiple measures, voters in the district clearly signal that components of the AJP that focus specifically on climate change and clean energy are a significant selling point. When told that the plan includes a major emphasis on investments to expand the use of clean energy, such as wind and solar power, to tackle the climate crisis and create jobs, 65% of voters in each district firmly say that this approach makes them more likely to support the AJP.

Among the specific provisions designed to address the climate crisis:

• 80% of voters in the 3rd District and 81% of voters in the 4th District support investments to rebuild roads and bridges and modernize public transportation to ensure it is cleaner and able to serve more people.
• 69% of voters in the 3rd District and 67% of voters in the 4th District support addressing the challenge of climate change by shifting to greater use of clean energy, reducing carbon pollution from vehicles and industry, and making homes and buildings more energy efficient.
• 70% of voters in the 3rd and 4th Districts support investments in clean energy such as wind and solar power by extending tax credits to spur innovation and manufacturing.
• 64% of voters in the 3rd District and 61% of voters in the 4th District support investments in electric vehicles and charging stations to reduce pollution and help more Americans buy clean cars.

“We need an economic renewal plan that’s as large as the interconnected crises we face. The strong standards and broad scope of President Biden’s American Jobs Plan has provided Congress with a clear framework, and now they must build it to meet this moment,” said Christian Gerlach, Organizer with the Sierra Club’s Our Wild America campaign in Nevada’s 4th Congressional District. “This public opinion poll makes clear that Nevadans are ready for the bold investments we need to clean up oil and gas pollution, cut fossil fuel subsidies, and boldly transition to clean energy. The survey was conducted via live telephone conversations between May 5 and May 10 by Hart Research Associates for Earthjustice and Environment America, in cooperation with the League of Conservation Voters.
