Today, Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA) and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) sent a letter to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, urging the agency to reevaluate the agency’s April 30 decision failing to even consider regulating the millions of tons of air pollutants—including methane—emitted from coal mines every year. The letter was sent directly to Acting EPA Administrator Bob Perciasepe, calling for curbed methane pollution from coal mines which are the fourth largest source of methane emissions in the United States. In January, Rep. Waxman and Senator Whitehouse announced a partnership between both chambers of Congress to push for stronger policies to address climate change.
