Rep. George Miller (D-CA) announced today that he will be retiring from the U.S. House of Representatives after 40 years in Congress.

The following is a statement from Earthjustice president Trip Van Noppen:

“Northern Californians and indeed all Americans will lose a powerful advocate and public servant when Rep. George Miller retires. Congressman Miller built his career on making policies that protect the best interests, public health, economic future, and quality of life for his constituents in the San Francisco Bay Area. But he didn’t stop there. He has been an ally to farmworkers across the nation, whose rights he has staunchly defended, and he has been a fierce protector of this country’s public lands, wildlife, and endangered species. We are sorry to learn of his impending retirement and grateful for his many decades of dedicated service.”
