Representatives Alan Lowenthal (CA-47), RaĂşl M. Grijalva (AZ-03), and Jared Huffman (CA-02) filed an amicus brief in support of Earthjustice and its clients Friends of the Earth, Sierra Club, Healthy Gulf, and the Center for Biological Diversity calling for the court to require the Department of Interior (DOI) to conduct a proper and complete environmental review of Gulf Lease 257 and immediately vacate the lease sale.

The following is a statement from Earthjustice Legislative Representative Sara Cawley:

“Since the administration has decided to proceed with a lease sale that they themselves admitted had an insufficient environmental review, it’s more important than ever for members of Congress to use their oversight powers to push DOI to act in the best interests of the American people. Earthjustice applauds Representatives Lowenthal, Grijalva, and Huffman for elevating this issue, and taking action to ensure Lease Sale 257 is properly vetted and analyzed, especially considering the ongoing climate crisis.”
