Earlier today, fossil fuel companies, developers, and other industry groups filed a lawsuit against New York’s All-Electric Building Act.

The following statement is attributed to Meagan Burton, Senior Attorney for Earthjustice:

“We stand ready to defend New York’s All-Electric Building Act — a critical piece of legislation for New York’s future and New Yorkers’ livelihoods. This lawsuit from fossil fuel companies, developers, and other interests is nothing more than a cynical attempt to delay the state’s climate leadership, which has never been more necessary in light of New York’s awful summer of unprecedented flooding, suffocating air quality, and extreme heat. We’ll see them in court.”

Intense Canadian wildfires are blanketing the northeastern U.S. in a dystopian haze, turning the air acrid, the sky yellowish gray and prompting warnings for vulnerable populations to stay inside.
