Today, the U.S. Senate confirmed Joe Goffman to be the assistant administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Air and Radiation. After his confirmation vote, Earthjustice Vice President of Policy and Legislation Director Raúl García issued the following statement:

“This confirmation couldn’t come at a more urgent time. As the EPA finalizes its particulate matter standard to clean up air pollution, now is the time for bold action. We’re pleased the Senate has stopped playing politics with Joe Goffman’s nomination and finally confirmed him to lead the EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation. He is exceptionally qualified to lead the office during this time and protect communities from harmful air pollution. We’re confident that Goffman will wield the power of the Clean Air Act to improve air quality and safeguard the health and well-being of our communities.

“We urge Goffman and the EPA to listen to impacted voices, keep their promises to environmental justice communities, and implement strong environmental standards to guarantee everyone’s right to breathe safe, healthy air.”
