Torie Atkinson is a Senior Attorney in Earthjustice’s Northeast Regional Office. Based in New York, Torie partners with communities to work toward a green transition away from fossil fuels and challenge toxic exposures like lead and PFAS that threaten clean air, water, and environmental resources.
Torie joined Earthjustice after more than a decade of civil rights and public interest work. She was formerly a Senior Litigation Counsel at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, enforcing consumer protection laws; a Senior Staff Attorney at Disability Rights Advocates, representing plaintiffs in class-action impact litigation on behalf of people with disabilities; and at the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division in the Employment Litigation Section, litigating employment discrimination matters.
Torie received her B.A. magna cum laude from Barnard College in 2006, and her J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School in 2015. At Harvard, she received a Pro Bono distinction for her over 1,500 hours of public interest work and was the Executive Managing Editor of the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review. Immediately after law school, Torie clerked for the Hon. Eric N. Vitaliano in the Eastern District of New York.
