David Lawlor

Title: Development Writer

I grew up in a small, rural town at the southern tip of California’s San Joaquin Valley. Despite being surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes and engaging in outdoor recreation as a youth, it wasn’t until later in life that I became concerned with the destruction of the natural world. In addition to personal experiences with nature, my shift in consciousness was prompted in large by the thoughts of numerous environmental philosophers, most notably Derrick Jensen and Arne Naess. My master’s thesis examines the practical application of Naess’ deep ecology philosophy within American society. Aside from environmental issues, my interests include camping, hiking, listening to reggae music, and San Francisco Giants baseball.

David Lawlor graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism from San Francisco State University and earned his Master of Arts in social science with an emphasis in environmental issues from Humboldt State University. He has worked as a writer and editor for various newspapers, magazines and websites. In addition, David has managed the marketing and business development activities for engineering and environmental services companies. David joined Earthjustice in 2010 as the Development Writer at the organization’s Headquarters office.
