Nydia Gutierrez

Northeast Regional Communications Strategist

Nydia Gutierrez is the Northeast Regional Communications Strategist. Nydia is based in New York.

Nydia is a bilingual Texas native, born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley. Nydia brings over seven years of Washington, D.C., experience in public relations, communications, community organizing, coalition building, fundraising, and government relations to help support Earthjustice’s mission of protecting our environment and wildlife. Armed with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and having served as a fundraiser for the 2012 Obama re-election campaign and 2013 Inaugural Committee, Nydia fuses her D.C. political experience with forward-thinking environmental advocacy.

Active in the outdoors realm, Nydia previously served as D.C. Regional Coordinator with non-profit/volunteer org Latino Outdoors where she coordinated nature outings in partnership with REI, National Park Service, D.C. Public Schools and other environmental organizations with an aim to promote outdoor recreation and stewardship to the Latino community. She currently serves on the advisory board of the Ocean Foundation where her passion for the Gulf Coast, surfing, and birding intersect with her advocacy goals.

As a steward of the outdoors with a passion for camping, hiking, and biking, Nydia has spent significant time out in nature camping in over 15 states including most notably Zion National Park in Utah — where she learned to cook her meals out of rock slabs and a decent campfire. These expeditions and experiences will be shared in depth — along with published op-eds in Latino Magazine, Latino Outdoors, Appalachian Mountain Club magazine — as a future book reflecting her views as a Latina millennial.

As her hometown, Brownsville, TX is under attack by the Trump Administration’s unnecessary border wall as well as South Padre Island, her old stomping grounds, have become a target for Liquefied Natural Gas facilities, Nydia has a healthy passion for combating the current administration and polluters.

She invites you to follow her on Twitter for the latest Nydia news, @nyds007.
