Sara Cawley is a legislative representative covering federal energy issues: specifically oil and gas development on public lands and waters, as well as the Arctic Refuge. Prior to Earthjustice, Sara spent three years as the Washington, D.C. representative at Western Organization of Resource Councils (WORC), where she led WORC’s federal policy campaigns on hardrock mining, coal mining, and onshore oil and gas development reforms. Her other experience includes a two-year public lands defense policy fellowship at National Wildlife Federation, and policy internships at the Department of the Interior and the White House Council on Environmental Quality.
Originally from northeastern Pennsylvania, Sara earned a B.A. in Political Science and Environmental Studies from Gettysburg College, and an M.S. in Environmental Policy and Natural Resources Management from the University of Michigan’s School of Natural Resources and Environment. In between degrees, Sara spent a year in Copenhagen, Denmark on a Fulbright grant, studying collaborative natural resource management, and a year with AmeriCorps Cape Cod, doing hands-on environmental restoration and education projects.
