Theresa Melton is Director of Internal Communications. Theresa is based in the Regional Office in Washington, D.C.
Theresa has a wealth of experience and a vision in leading internal communications, and a cultural aptitude for building bridges across teams at every level at Earthjustice.
Prior to Earthjustice, Theresa served as the Manager for Strategic Communications, Entity Relations, and Public Policy for the American Bar Association in Washington, D.C. for seven plus years. In this role, she was responsible for leading a professional team of journalists, editors, and digital media experts in providing strategic communications, digital media offerings, and public policy in messaging the association and its more than 400,000 legal professionals. Theresa also served as Senior Public Relations Specialist with the ABA Criminal Justice Section, where she developed international communications strategies for its White-Collar Crime National Institute in London and Frankfurt.
Theresa was also co-chair of the ABA’s Staff Diversity Council, guiding communications strategies and training around their DEI policies and practices. Before that, she worked for AARP as National Project Manager for Social Media and Outreach, for Prince George’s County Department of Social Services as Media Relations Manager, and for Fox Television as a local news producer.
Theresa is a graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park with a degree in English. She holds a M.S. in Marketing from the University of Maryland University College. Theresa is a native Washingtonian, who resides in southern Prince George’s County, Maryland with her husband, Julius. Theresa spends her free time with family and friends and volunteers with several organizations committed to coaching and mentoring young people. She is also an executive board member of the Washington Section of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW). Theresa is a 2015 graduate of the D.C. Improv Comedy School and performs across the DMV.
