Timna Axel

Timna Axel (she/her) is the Public Affairs and Communications strategist with the Midwest Regional Office and the Tribal Partnerships Program. Prior to joining Earthjustice, Timna served for six years as director of communications for Chicago Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights, and for three years as the senior Midwest field organizer for J Street. Timna was born in Israel and grew up in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. In 2012, she reported for the Cape Argus in Cape Town, South Africa and investigated wrongful convictions with the Medill Justice Project. She received her B.A. in History and her Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism in 2013. As a reporting fellow for City Bureau, she was part of a team that received the 2017 Peter Lisagor Award for Best In-depth Reporting in a Community Newspaper. In 2017, Timna won YNPN Chicago's Young Nonprofit Professional of the Year Award.
