Hawaiian Electric defends role in renewable energy project delays, as fossil fuel plants approach retirement
Kylie Wager Cruz, Staff Attorney, Mid-Pacific Office, Earthjustice: "We've seen in the past when there's been an unanticipated shortfall, that we've had to resort to other types of utility-scale fossil-based extensions or additions — and so I think the commission is really focused on not letting that happen."
Drew Caputo, Vice President of Litigation, Earthjustice: “The federal oil and gas leasing program needs serious reform if America is going to address climate change. Nearly 25% of this country’s climate-cooking emissions come from fossil fuels pumped or mined from lands and waters that belong to all Americans. This is unsustainable.”
Robin Cooley, Attorney, Rocky Mountain Office, Earthjustice: “It's significant because pneumatics are such a large source of methane emissions from this industry. This is a step in the right direction, but there's definitely going to be more that needs to be done to meet those targets in the future.”
