Abigail Dillen, Earthjustice President, issued the following statement:

“Earthjustice welcomes the recognition of the right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment by the UN Human Rights Council. Individual and collective human survival and well-being are impossible without a healthy environment. In the face of accelerating climate change, ecosystem collapse, and pervasive environmental injustice, it is essential that all nations take action to defend this fundamental human right. Every individual and every community on Earth is entitled to clean air and water, a hospitable climate, and a livable future. Earthjustice has advocated for formal UN recognition of this right since the 1990s. We congratulate the Council on having taken this important step and call on the General Assembly to endorse it.”
