Earthjustice President Abigail Dillen released an additional statement following this week’s attack on Capitol Hill.
“President Donald Trump is a national security threat and must be immediately removed from office. This week, he pressed a mob to overturn the results of a free and fair democratic election, inciting his supporters to storm the Capitol, where they engaged in domestic terrorism. The criminals assaulted and killed law enforcement officers and threatened members of Congress while looting and vandalizing the seat of democracy in our country.
“Having incited this insurrection, Trump refused to act to end it, and lives were needlessly lost.
“The 25th Amendment and the impeachment powers of Congress are designed to address the extraordinary threat posed by this president. Swift action to hold him accountable is essential to uphold the constitution, preserve our democracy, and protect the health and wellbeing of all Americans.”
