Earthjustice is incredibly excited to have Sergio Garcia join the organization’s Board of Trustees. Garcia is a renowned legal and business leader with a vested passion for racial justice and equity. He has served as a chief legal officer at public medical technology companies and as a partner at international law firms.

Garcia has worked to advance racial justice and promote civil rights through pro bono legal work as well as dedicated leadership on nonprofit boards, including Public Advocates, Centro Legal, Latino Policy & Politics Initiative, and the Alliance for Latinx Leadership & Policy. In these roles, Garcia drives advocacy on critical public policy issues including economic inequality, criminal justice, affordable housing, and environmental justice. He also serves as a Commissioner on the Oakland Police Commission.

“This is an exciting time to join the Board,” says Garcia. “Earthjustice plays an important leadership role in pushing not only elected officials but also the private sector to put the climate crisis front and center, and to do so through an environmental justice lens. I look forward to advancing this critical work at such a pivotal moment in our history.”

Garcia was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, and now lives in Oakland with his wife and dog. He received his JD from Berkeley Law School and his BA from Stanford University.
