Today, New York Governor Hochul addressed the state detailing goals across sectors including environmental and public health priorities. Several of these proposals will set the stage for New York to lead the nation in shifting away from the dirty fossil fuel industry, including prohibiting fossil fuels for new construction, transitioning 2 million homes to become all-electric by 2030, electrifying vehicles, and phasing out dirty fossil-fuel power plants. Earthjustice, partners, and clients will continue to advocate for a clean energy future and for clean air and water for all New Yorkers.

The following statement can be attributed to Liz Moran, New York policy advocate for Earthjustice:

“New York has set some of the strongest climate mandates in the country, and Governor Hochul has announced some bold actions to help New York meet them. We are thrilled to hear the Governor plans to phase homes and vehicles off of fossil fuels, but New York can’t bow to the pressures of the fossil fuel industry and real-estate industry — a gas ban for new construction should take place in the next year. We applaud the progress New York leadership has achieved and look forward to working with Governor Hochul and champions in the Senate and Assembly to adopt bold policies to fight the climate crisis.”
