Senate Confirms Sally Jewell as Secretary of the Interior

Today by a vote of 87–11 the Senate approved the nomination of Sally Jewell, former Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI) chief executive to head the Interior Department. The following statement is from Earthjustice President Trip Van Noppen:

“We commend the Senate for approving Sally Jewell as the new Secretary of Interior. Her professional and personal commitment to conservation will be invaluable to running DOI. She understands from experience the role a healthy environment and public lands in particular play in our economy. Jewell has a vital role to play in implementing the President’s commitment to addressing climate change both in terms of adaptation and transitioning to clean energy.”
