Earthjustice calls on Biden administration to not issue new leases in the next offshore five year program

In response to Secretary Deb Haaland’s announcement of the proposed National Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Program for the next five years and the supporting draft Environmental Impact Statement expected by June 30th, Earthjustice’s Vice President of Litigation, Drew Caputo, issued the following statement:
“It’s time to end new offshore oil leasing and move toward a just clean energy transition. There’s already more offshore oil under lease than the climate can stand. We can either deal with climate change or continue with business as usual on offshore oil development. We can’t do both.”
