On Saturday, Senator Catherine Cortez Masto won reelection in Nevada, maintaining Democratic control of the U.S. Senate. After the race was called, Earthjustice President Abigail Dillen issued the following statement:
“Voters across the country showed up and overwhelmingly voted for candidates committed to tackling the most pressing issues we face, including climate change. The Senate, under Democratic leadership, successfully passed historic and transformative climate investments and has confirmed a record number of judges from diverse backgrounds and unique lived experiences. By solidifying a Senate majority in the midterms, we can and must continue to rebalance the bench with fair-minded judges. A free and fair judiciary has never been more important.
“With the results of the elections in the House still unknown, the Biden administration must be ready to take an all of government approach to address climate change and environmental injustice by using every administrative tool available. We must meet this once in a lifetime moment. The time has never been more urgent for us to rapidly transition away from fossil fuels in an equitable and just way, and we urge the Biden administration to help make this a reality.”
