(S1180-B / A3575-B) On Tuesday, the New York State (NYS) Senate passed the Clean Deliveries Act for a second year in a row. Now, the NYS Assembly must pass this essential bill that will clean up New York’s polluted air and take a hard look at warehousing in their districts. High pediatric asthma rates and premature deaths are linked to poor air quality due to increased diesel truck traffic to and from warehouses. The Clean Deliveries Act has garnered statewide support as it provides a necessary roadmap for cleaner air from e-commerce mega-warehouse operations and paves the way for a future without haze, diesel smoke, and climate pollution. Importantly, the bill confronts long-standing air quality disparities in neighborhoods that have historically borne the brunt of freight-related emissions.
The following statement is attributed to the ElectrifyNY Coalition:
“As the New York skies filled with haze last week from the Canadian wildfires, we thank our leaders in the NYS Senate for passing the Clean Deliveries Act, which protects public health and takes the necessary steps to clean up our streets and air from increasing mega e-commerce warehouse diesel truck traffic. Communities already overburdened by pollution cannot afford further delays. The NYS Assembly has an opportunity to take action to protect its constituents. The Senate’s vote was a crucial step forward, and now they’re passing the baton to the Assembly to protect communities, especially those overburdened by pollution.”
