Earthjustice Condemns Trump Administration’s Rollback of Fuel Economy Standards
At a time when households nationwide are being squeezed by rising prices, the final rule will make people pay more at the pump

Today, the Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued a final rule that weakens existing Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards for cars and light trucks that would have saved Americans billions of dollars in fuel costs and helped reduce air pollution.
“People are already contending with high gas prices, and this rule will make a bad problem even worse,” said Anne Clement, Senior Legislative Representative, Earthjustice. “Through this rule, the Administration is forcing people to drive less fuel-efficient vehicles and therefore pay more for gas. Even as they continue to drag us backwards towards dirtier, expensive, outdated fossil fuels, we will continue to fight for the policies and provisions that will unleash more affordable, reliable, and clean energy.”
