Lorena I. Vélez Miranda is a senior associate attorney based in Puerto Rico. At Earthjustice, she represents environmental and community organizations to achieve 100% renewable rooftop solar and storage in Puerto Rico. She also collaborates with farmers to protect scarce agricultural land in the archipelago.

Lorena graduated from the University of Puerto Rico, School of Law. She then clerked at the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico. Before graduating, she interned as a student law clerk at the Puerto Rico Court of Appeals and later at the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Puerto Rico. Additionally, she was a practicing student at the Environmental Legal Aid Clinic.

Lorena is interested in the intersection of law and how humans experience and shape the landscape. During her last year as a law student, she joined her law school’s law review, where she researched and wrote about how gender impacts fisherwomen and their presence in public policy in Puerto Rico and other countries.

In her free time, Lorena enjoys paddle boarding, swimming, and taking leisurely walks with her dog Macarena. She is also an avid reader and loves learning about art, music, and food.
