Rodrigo Cantú is a senior attorney with the Gulf Regional office. His work focuses on representing both frontline community groups and mission-driven environmental organizations in achieving their goals to create thriving communities, a sustainable environment, and to reduce pollution across the region.

Before joining Earthjustice, Rodrigo spent seven years as an environmental justice attorney at a nonprofit legal services organization in Houston, Texas. While there, he advised clients in all matters pertaining to state environmental permitting including comment submissions, contested case hearings, and negotiations for community benefits agreements. This work included advocating for pollution control on air emissions sources, groundwater contamination monitoring, and continued testing of wastewater that is sent into urban bayous — all in the interest of the public health of nearby residents. He also litigated alongside co-counsel in both state and federal court in matters involving land use law to combat industrial encroachment into residential districts.

Rodrigo received his degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University and his law degree from the University of Texas at Austin. He lives in Houston, Texas.
